The Bhadraj trek is a beautiful and gradual ridge walk lined with Rhododendron and Pine trees in some patches and grassy meadows in other patches. A short hike from the hustle and bustle of Mussoorie is refreshing.
My most memorable hikes can be classified as ‘Shortcuts that Backfired’.Edward Abbey

They say that taking the first step is always the hardest, but they also say that a whole new world of experiences and accomplishments awaits us right after that first step since the journey of a thousand miles begins with just a single step.
Adventure and trekking are a similar story we feel. There is a whole wide world of experiences that you can never get enough of once you get a taste for it and every time you want to take your experience to the next level of adventure. Our clients are often scared to do that first trek but they almost always come back again and again once they have done that first trek.
It’s a good thing we know the Himalayas so well because that also helps us in finding that perfect first step into the beautiful world of trekking. The Bhadraj trek is exactly that. A relaxed single day trek not too far from Mussoorie.
You will not need to travel very far into the mountains as this is just a half an hour drive out of Mussoorie, due to the short travel time and trek distance, you don’t need to skip the creature comforts that we city dwellers are used to as you can stay at a hotel/home stay of your desired luxury at night. The trek is not overly exhausting as the trek distance is relatively short.
At the same time, you do not miss out on the beauty of the upper Himalayas or the wilderness that trekkers and adventure enthusiasts crave. Since Bhadraj is the highest point in the Mussoorie ridge, this is a beautiful vantage point from where you will see a number of prominent mountains of the greater Himalayas on a clear day. These include the Bandarpunch and Kalanag range, the Jaonli and Gangotri range, even Nanda Devi- one of the most technical peaks in the world is visible in the distance. Panning to the south you can see the Doon valley and the Shivalik ranges. The vantage point is such that back in the day, Mt Everest was discovered was discovered for a place very close by- albeit with the help of telescopes, nonetheless, should give you perspective on how far the vision goes at this place.
The trek itself is a beautiful and gradual ridge walk lined with Rhododendron and Pine trees in some patches and grassy meadows in other patches.
From Mussoorie we do a short drive till Hathi Paon and depending on how much you want to trek, you can start the trek from there or drive a further 4 km to Dhudli along a muddy track that can only be done by a Jeep. From Dhudhli you trek a further 5 km to Bhadraj which is at a height of about 8,000 ft.
This can be done as a stand alone single day trek if you have other plans, alternatively we can plan an entire itinerary around this for you as a beginner adventure program which includes this single day trek, can also include River rafting ranging from a single day commercial stretch to a 2-3 day beginner level Rafting expedition we can also arrange other single day treks off the beaten path along with activities like rock climbing etc. Those of you who are photography enthusiasts can also add a one day bird watching and photography in Dehradun- this area has some of the richest flora and fauna in the country with about 300 types of birds and the about 600 types of flowers- easily a photographers delight.
