Experience

While personal opinions may differ, popular consensus places Dayara Bugyal among the most beautiful meadows, and one of the most fulfilling Himalayan trekking experiences whether you are a beginner looking for some soft adventure and a pristine short getaway or whether you want a longer and harder trek which is highly rewarding. This is thanks to the numerous trails that branch out from Dayara Bugyal.

Bugyal stands for a high altitude meadow and this is among the most beautiful that you will come across and because of the terrain and the slopes here, the government has earmarked this place to build a ski centre. If and when it is built, this place will offer one of the best and largest ski slopes anywhere in the Himalayas. Till it isn’t, we offer this is one of our regular treks which really makes people fall in love with the Himalayas.

The terrain is quite unique and ever changing. In the initial bit you feel like you are doing a trek in Himachal thanks to the large and unbroken green valleys, and as you move up this trek starts to feel like a high altitude Garhwal trek with the mountain ranges of the greater Himalayan ranges starting to reveal themselves in a 360 degree view from the Bandarpunch and Kalanag range and on to the Gangotri range, Srikanth, Jaonli ranges etc. In short it has an ever changing landscape with a variety of views that very few other treks can offer.

The best part, this can be a simple 3 day trek, or a challenging 7-8 day trek or even anything in between those and the views are stunning all the time.

While on our fixed departures, you reach a maximum height of about 12,500 ft and we make this a fairly simple 4 day experience with treks ranging from 3-4 hours a day combined with a day of relaxed activities such as rock climbing, cricket and a little soccer at its open fields, we are open to planning a custom one in case you are looking to make this more challenging for you. contact us and we will be glad to personalize this experience to suit you.

On our fixed departure this is a 4-5 day trek along with an additional day or two if you are travelling from Delhi or another city. The trek starts from a place called Barsu which is close to the road connecting Gangotri and Uttarkashi. the road distance from Dehradun is about 190 km.
We trek 20-22 km in total over the four days and camp on the way at Barnala and Dayara. The terrain is well marked all the way and though it is steep and tiring at times, the distances are short on all trekking days and the trek can be undertaken by a first timer with a relative fitness level.

All in all a five to six day trek from Dehradun to Dehradun or from Rishikesh to Rishikesh.

Itinerary

Day 1 / Arrive in Uttarkashi/Barsu - 6-7 hours drive
Barsu is Starting point of the Dayara Bugyal trek. This is a beautiful and quaint hill town unlike most towns in Garhwal. A very progressive town and also offers the first views of permanent snow including the Srikanth and Gangotri range. The drive passes Mussourie, the Tehri dam reservoir and Uttarkashi through twisty mountain terrain to reach Barsu. At night camp/at a resort in Barsu.
Day 2 / Barsu (2300 m/7545 ft.) to Barnala (2600 m/8530 ft.) - 5 km, 3-4 hours trek
Trek 5 km from Barsu to Barnala. The trek is fairly steep and goes through some very dense forests and opens up into a beautiful meadow. All the way offering very beautiful views. You will be camping at Barnala today and tomorrow. All the facilities with regards to spacious heated tents, sleeping bags, dining tents, chairs and tables, toilet and necessary facilities would be given so that you don't rough it out while still soak in the himalayan camping experience.
Day 3 / Barnala to Dayara Bugyal (3048 m/10,000 ft.) - 3 km, 2-3 hours
A steep 3 km trek one way takes you to the Summit of Dayara Bugyal via the beautiful meadows of Barnala. Here it becomes a very beautiful and gradual walk along beautiful summits of interconnecting meadows and offer a 360 degree view of most prominent mountains in the Garhwal region including the Bandarpunch and Kalanag range along with the Gangotri, Jaonli and Srikanth group to the south. Though it will get cold here at night, it is a very beautiful place to camp with a vast expanse of meadows and a beautiful vantage point.
Day 4 / Trek back from Dayara Bugyal to Barsu - 8 km, 5-6 hours. Stay at Barsu or leave for Dehradun.
Day 5 (Optional) / If staying previous night at Barsu, then after breakfast depart for Dehradun.

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek?

It was a well organized trek. The guides, helpers were all experienced. The food was great. Kudos to Mr. Hukum chinwan who kept us happy & healthy by his culinary skills. Satya….Mr.Satyajeet sing is the person who made this trek a memorable one. The inputs & guidance given by Mr. Biala, Tapas, Susheel & his father was worth mentioning. Never felt out of place or insecure or anything. End of the day I felt it is the wonderful decision I have taken & came for this trek.

(C) As a first timer how did you feel about the trek?

At the very outset starting from Deharadun to Uttarkashi to our base camp Barsu….it was a mesmerizing journey with mighty mountains & lovely river Bhageerathi following us thought. Thehry reservoir area on the way was breath taking with beautiful scenery. Our trek plan was to Dayara bugyal & we encountered all seasons like rain…hail stone….sunshine. Snow fall started @ 11am & ended by 3am in the night. Thanks in tons to Mr.Satyajeet sing & his team who kept us comfortably even in that adverse weather. We camped @ Barnala that day. One of the happiest moment in my life was that day @ 3am….fully snow covered mountains…trees…tents…ground & silvery moon on the bright sky….it’s like a dream land…true sense it is DEV BHOOMI. There was a heavy rain one day so we could go to Mukbha, Gangamatha temple, pandukeshwar temple with small trek….it was a blessed opportunity on our journey. I never felt I am a first time trekker at all

(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek?

1. Fitness: Physical as well as mental fitness most required & it is your attitude towards the situation, as our cook Hukuma chinwan says: Bombay ka passion & pahadi ka moussam koyi bhi predict nahi kar sakthe.

2. There should have been an interaction with the local people, with their culture & beliefs & their life style

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek?

I can’t think of anything because from the resort to food to guides everything was taken care off. The cook was super amazing and infact the entire staff was very courteous. Though I am back from the hills and its almost a week but I feel I have left behind my heart and mind amidst those beautiful meadows?

(C) As a first timer how did you feel about the trek?

Being a first time trekker, the 2day long trek was full of learning & new experiences in the wilderness. Every step that I took just made my belief of never giving up and building up this new passion!
There are 2 or 3 things that will probably come to anyone’s mind while doing trekking for the first time (especially when we reach the top):
1. I wish i could keep walking and this trail never ends.
2. I wish i didn’t have to go back to the city. i want to live here.
3. In short, if you ever wondered why people get ‘infected’ with high-altitude enthusiasm and keep going back to the hills every year, you will find your answer right here! !

Buckle up trust My Himalayan Adventure!! You are good to go :) !!

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek

I loved the fact that everything is organised seamlessly. There were no questions or doubts anywhere, things just happened in a very natural manner. Of course that helps when you are in the mountains and everything else is very peaceful. I liked the food, I liked how we were all taken care of and checked on. What I didn’t like about the trek is “me” because no matter how healthy you think you are, you cannot compete with the mountain people when it comes to trekking.

(C) As a first timer how did you feel about the trek?

I think as a first timer its a great experience, just the fact that life could be so good away from the city, the phones and electricity, the trek was actually an excuse to get away from everything but I think I quickly realised how important it was for me to realise that how we lead such unhealhthy lifestyles and we must work on it. Seeing these people run up the mountains so quick only gave me a sense of how we ought to be and what we’re not doing right. I think its been a great learning experience and I’d like to do more treks.

(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek

Take it slow, be easy on yourself. Its not a competition. you’ll all get there in your own time. sometimes its just great to stop in the middle of nowhere and look at the view, not click it but feel it.

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek:
The planning of the trip was done very well, thanks to Tapas. He changed the trek route a couple of times to suit our requirements. We are so glad that we finally picked this trek because it gave a taste of everything; the forest, the meadows, and the snow capped mountains. The best part about the trek was that we barely saw any other trekkers on our way. So we felt like we had the mountains all for ourselves. We also experienced rain, hail and snow on the way which made the trek more exciting. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this trek.

(C) As a first timer how did you feel about the trek:
Although the trek is rated for beginners, one should be very prepared and in good physical condition as climb is very steep at some points. As a first timer I was mesmerized at the beauty of the surroundings and now can’t wait to go back.

(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek:
As I mentioned before, please ensure that you are in good physical condition and start working out if you haven’t already.

(B) Things you loved, liked and didn’t like about the trek?

Things We Liked: Systematic arrangements, Great locations, Good food, Friendly Guides

Things We Disliked: Cant think of any…

(C) As a first timer how did you feel about the trek?

It felt great to be a part of the trek. We went to Dayara Bugyal for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our request to go further from our targeted camping site, to the top was heeded and supported by the guides which was very pleasing.

(D) Any recommendations for those planning to undertake this trek?

Make sure you’re carrying the right stuff to wear for the trek. It’s crucial. Also, as the weather there is unpredictable, please carry rain wear too.
