Dayara Bugyal Trek: 4 – 7 May 2019

Dayara Bugyal, in Uttarkashi district, meaning “high altitude meadow” is at an elevation of 3,408 metres (11,181 ft). The beautiful meadows are developed into ski slopes covering an area of 28 square kilometres (11 sq mi). It is approached from Uttarkashi, up to village Basru by road and further 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) by trekking.

    For a leisure trekker looking to view the Kanchenjunga, this 6-day Trek (from Yuksom) to Dzongri top and back is a great experience. The trek starts from the quaint village of Yuksom. As you enter the Kanchenjunga National Park you hike through the lush green forest to reach Tsokha, a major stop for trekkers in midst of a beautiful village with a pond and gompa. From here its gradual uphill as you cross meadows and forests till you reach Dzongri, where you suddenly start feeling cold. Sometimes, during the season it snows and the entire place including the Dzongri top is immaculately white. And as you ascend early morning to the Dzongri top, you will find all the walking and climbing worth it as you see the majestic Kanchenjunga peak against the sunrise. A sight worth walking for.

Mount Elbrus is a dormant volcano. The last explosion occurred about 2000 years ago. The two summits of Elbrus are in fact two craters of volcano. Everywhere on its slopes you can see debris of solidified lava.

    Mt. Deo Tibba is a beautiful 6001 Meter (19,687 Ft.) high peak, located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalaya and situated quite close to the resort town of Manali, in Himachal Pradesh. The mountain itself consists of an extensive ice cap, with the actual climb to the summit being up an inclined hump of a ‘windslab’ snow. This magnificent peak is accessible, once the edge of the great snow & ice plateau extending right up to the periphery of the Malana Glacier, (which abuts the upper Kullu and Malana valleys), is reached. On reaching the summit, one is rewarded with an exhilarating view of vast eternal snowfields, hanging glaciers and many peaks of the surrounding areas; including the great peaks of the Malana & Tosh glacier catchments.
